Solidworks Add a Plane to Draw on
Do you know how to utilise Extrude Boss/Base feature in Solidworks interface? Extrude Boss/Base is one of the important and very useful tool in Soildworks CAD software to create solid 3D models. It extrudes a sketch or selected sketch contours in one or ii directions to create solid feature. That means, if you accept closed profile sketch drawing, then you can add materials to that contour and convert it into 3D model.
Extrude boss/base feature is mainly located in "Features command manager" or "Insert Menu". Using the Extrude dominate feature, yous create 3d models similar block, cube, cylinder, 3D polygon, 3D elliptical shapes etc. In this tutorial, shows how to create 3D rectangular block with crude sketch dimensions.

How to Apply Extrude Dominate Feature on Sketch
Step-1
Open the SolidWorks and New part File. If you lot don't know it, read How to Create New Function File. Select the Aeroplane (east.1000. Peak Aeroplane) and normalize using the "Normal To" Push button. Read Heads-upwardly toolbar on this blog.
Here you demand to create rectangular block of whatever thickness. You likewise studied that for creating rectangular cake, the base cartoon is a rectangle in Applied science Graphics. So, I draw a rough sketch of a rectangle which is shown in the in a higher place figure. Hither I use a Center Rectangle and select the origin as its center and complete rectangle sketch.
Step 2
"Exit the Sketch" by clicking the Cherry Cross mark located at top correct corner of the graphics interface, every bit shown in the above effigy. Or Clicking on the "Leave Sketch" button from the command manager.
Important Annotation : Before applying any features tools in your sketch, Must get out from the Sketch like every bit shown in the pace 2 image.
Step 3
Earlier selecting the "Extrude Boss/Base" Feature tool, select the "Sketch 1" from the SolidWorks Feature design tree.
Step 4
Then select the Extrude Dominate from the Command manger, past clicking on the button.
or
Y'all tin become to SolidWorks "Insert carte". From the drag driblet downward menu select the "Boss/Base". Then a side drib down menu will appear and select the "Extrude" choice as shown in the to a higher place image.
From Menubar, Insert -> Boss/Base -> Extrude
Step five
And so the Sketch is convert to a 3D block is shown in the preview paradigm. You need to add together the height or thickness of the rectangular block in the extrude dominate property director as shown in the left side bar. At the green marked points you need to enter the value in it. Then click "OK" green tick button marked with red box. Then you can see a 3d rectangular block as shown in the figure.

Additional Info: Boss Extrude Holding Manager
From: The "from" choice ways the extrude dominate application from Sketch airplane/Surface/Face/Aeroplane/Vertex/outset. In this you need to set the where you lot need to start the extrusion.
Management 1 or ii : It controls the extrusion direction in either one or both. Here dissimilar options are available such equally Blind, Up to vertex, Upward to surface, Upwardly to body, Mid-plane and offset from the body. You volition meet the applications of options contained in boss extrude holding manager.
Sparse Feature: Using this you can catechumen very thin 3d models having very small thickness.
Selected Contours: You lot tin can select the needful contours to create 3d parts.
Extrude Boss Property Manager Applications: Draft and Sparse Characteristic Tutorials
Now, you know the Solidworks extrude boss or base of operations choice very well and how to use information technology on Solidworks cad software. In this section you are going to meet some features contained in extrude boss property manager such as Draft and Thin Characteristic. Draft is used to create tapered face as per the set up draft angle and it is similar SolidWorks Typhoon feature tool, but limited abilities as compared to information technology. Thin feature is another sub tool option contained in the extrude dominate property director which helps to make small thickness models. It has ability to convert 3D solid body to small thickness torso every bit prepare in the thickness section. Both draft and sparse feature applications tutorials are given below with YouTube video instructions and footstep by step pictures.
How to Use Extrude Boss Typhoon Feature Tutorial
Here I am going to apply 3D rectangle solid box created by using Extrude Boss/base of operations tool.
Stride 1
First you take to get to the FeaturesDesignTree manager, in which right mouse click on the "Boss-Extrude1" and select the "edit Characteristic" from the appearing dialogue box.
Then you can see the Boss Holding manager.
Step 2: Enable Draft Feature in Boss Belongings Manager
In the "Management 1" section, click on the "Draft On/Off" button to enable and disable the typhoon tool in dominate property. Click once on the button and the button color will fade abroad. That means you switch on the draft (Draft is ON).
Step 3: Set the Typhoon Angle and Direction
You tin also see the "typhoon angle" set box in the side of the typhoon push button in propertymanager and enter the value of every bit y'all needed as draft angle. For case I am going to enter "20 degree" and the draft inward extrude boss is happening and preview shown below.
Tick on the "draft Outward" box to change the draft extrusion direction outward , which is abroad from the rectangle center.
In this way y'all can use the extrude boss draft in or outward tool. If you lot want to apply tapering to all faces from sketch plane equally to all sides, this feature is very helpful and save time and storage space by using it. That means as designer, the productivity will improves.
Annotation: Using this Typhoon tool, yous tin can't control the each face or edge of the solid model individually. For that SolidWorks CAD software provides the "SolidWorks Typhoon Feature Tool".
How to Utilise Extrude Boss Thin Characteristic Tutorial
Like applied earlier in the Extrude boss draft holding managing director tutorial, you tin can't apply thin feature to already created model. You take to create new model and you cannot access the feature by using the Edit feature push button.
So, I again created a 3D cylinder model for showing the Thin Characteristic Tutorial, if you don't know how to create 3D solid cylinder, lookout the in a higher place solidworks video tutorial which explains it past step past step style.
Annotation: Do not close the "Extrude boss holding manager" afterward creating the cylinder and your graphics area look like this below in paradigm.
Stride 1: Enable Thin Feature
Go to the dominate holding manager which is nowadays I the graphics area and click on the "Thin Characteristic" side box to enable it. Then you can see the thin characteristic tools options like different management, thickness in mm and cap ends choice also.
Step 2: Utilize Thin Feature to 3D Solid Cylinder
When you enabled the thin feature, you can run into the preview of the set thickened hollow cylinder. Just you need to use management of awarding of thin feature. Three management options are bachelor such as one management, mid-plane and two directions.
If y'all select "one direction", set thickness will added in one direction just, either towards the center or abroad from it.
You select the "Mid-plane" equally the direction; the application is equal in both direction as per your set thickness. If you are increasing the thickness, it equally added to inner side and outer side.
The two direction choice, you lot can run into the two thickness inbound box and you can separately set up the inner and outer sides.
Click on the green tick button in the extrude boss propertymanager to obtain the finalized design or model. This way you can create modest thickness models in unproblematic way and for complex shapes also it tin can be applied. But ane of the disadvantages is that thickness is throughout uniform. No command over the thickness in various points. You lot can also see the SolidWorks Shell feature tool, which is gives like effect like thin characteristic, but multi-thickness application is possible with shell feature.
I think yous guys got an idea of Solidworks extrude dominate and additional characteristic tool like typhoon and thin feature contained in the boss property manager. If you accept whatever doubts feel free to comment me and share these Solidworks tutorials to your friends also.
Thanks friends and see in next solidworks tutorial.
I hope yous enjoy the SolidWorks tutorial. Yous tin can ask whatsoever doubts, questions or tutorial asking through the annotate form. Thank you.
